Have you ever read a book so heart-breaking that you couldn’t finish it?

Well… apparently, I’ve written one like that.  This is part of a review of Time Stand Still on goodreads.com.

I just don’t know if I’ll ever be strong enough to read the rest of this series. I know if I can just get through the first few chapters, I know it’ll be a wonderful read, but I just can’t. I just can’t, at least not now. Ugh! So frustrating!! How could you Ms. Otto? How could you? :::sniff sniff:::

I’d hoped that this reader would be able to muster up the strength to continue, but she hasn’t in the 7 months that have passed. I still have hope that she’ll finish the series someday.

Anyway, I’d been able to push this to the back of mind for most of these past months, but today, a high school friend left a note on Facebook saying the same thing:

Loved her first book too- cried too much at the second one and havent been able to keep reading- I just love the characters too much and too wrapped up in it.

What’s that? Saaaaad panda.

Granted, plenty of readers have contacted me while they’re reading Time Stands Still, cursing me or telling me they’ve been making a fool of themselves on public transportation… but most have been able to continue the book, eventually finishing all three books of the series. The payoff’s good, I swear… and the vast majority of my readers agree.

So, please… if you’re reading the series, have some faith in me. I never thought I could pull off a happy ending for Emi, either, but I really believe that I did. So give it a shot.

Time Stands Still is the second book in the Emi Lost & Found series.

  1. See now? I’m too curious to just give up on a book or book series. Especially if the book made me cry, I’d just HAVE to find out how it all ends or it would bug me for ever more!

  2. Time Stands Still broke. my. fucking. heart. I sobbed. I didn’t just sniffle or pinch off a couple tears. I was wracked with grief and had to put my Kindle down so I didn’t ruin it by getting it wet with tears. My husband, who had been sleeping, woke up and had to console me. It was RIDICULOUS! I’ve read thousands and thousands of books and didn’t cry at any of those as hard as I cried for this one.

But I trusted Lori to give me a happy ending. And she did.

Much to my surprise, given my loyalty to the love between Nate and Emi, I opened my mind and heart to the rest of the series and wasn’t disappointed.

If you’ve felt sad (or even as grief-stricken as I was), just keep reading. I promise Lori makes it all worth it in the end. It’s wonderful!
